Assignment #1 – Self Portrait

For our first assignment, we’ve been asked to produce a creative self portrait.

This is me trying to be funny… What I did is I roughly sketched a standard self portrait; I scanned the picture and cut out the eyes and mouth/chin area; and then I made a collage out of it. It’s a bit rough around the edges (and my self portrait isn’t one of my most accurate portraits) but I was told to be creative, and creative I tried to be!

A bit about Ashley

We all have the ability to see and appreciate the beauty of design.

My appreciation for Design may have originated with my Father who is, himself, an artist and designer.

He saw my potential from an early age and tried to nurture my talents from as early as I can remember.

My interests vary a lot. I love history and art mostly – combine the two and you have a winner! In my spare time, I paint; and I express myself best through abstract art.

Photography is also a passion of mine. I find the ability to freeze a moment in time fascinating, and I enjoy capturing seemingly insignificant details of an object, and making it look beautiful.

I studied Art and Art History in London as one of my GCSE subjects, and that is where I began to grow as an artist. I continued with Art when I moved to Bergen, Norway, and there my studies were mostly focused on architecture, interior design, problem solving, and product design. I also took a photography class, which I found quite enlightening.

More recently, my father let me work alongside him on a few of his projects, and I realized then, that my future is in Design. That is why I decided to take this course in Graphic Design. Working with something I love has always been a dream of mine, and to fulfill that dream, I must begin here.
